America and its “Ostrich Syndrome”

You know the cartoon depiction of the ostrich. A bad thing is about to happen and it buries its head in the sand. Whatever the ostrich is about to encounter is scary and it refuses to deal with it.

According to social psychologist and historian Mary Montief, Americans are increasingly demonstrating similar behavior. She states, “You can literally provide facts and truth to someone and they either call into question the source or refuse to believe what they see.”

Examples of truth she states many do not want to accept:

  • COVID shutdowns are not stopping the spread of the virus and have far reaching. consequences including death and economic destruction throughout the world. Yet they continue.

  • Masks do work when used right and when people are in close proximity to each other.

  • President Trump uses excessive exaggeration and hyperbole.

  • Joe Biden has significant cognitive decline.

  • Hunter Biden’s laptop and emails are authentic. The Biden family used their influence and position to take money from the Communist Chinese and other countries.

  • Cancel culture is real and being used mostly by the left. Latest examples include the Girl Scouts of America removing a post congratulating Amy Coney Barret and schools expelling conservative students.

  • Climate change is real. Removing fossil fuels is not possible over the next 25 years and nuclear energy is the most efficient non-polluting energy available.

  • News organizations and social media giants are not neutral. A significant majority have thrown their editorial weight, censorship and focus toward leftist agendas.

  • America does not have systemic racism but bigots exist in all races and cultures.

Ms. Montief suggest that many Americans are figuratively burying their heads in the sand by:

  • Consuming news from only their side of the political debate.

  • Allowing others (media, teachers, entertainers) to tell them what to think.

  • Using derogatory dehumanizing labels to define someone they do not agree with.

  • Binging on entertainment, drugs, porn and social media as a form of “dropping out.”

  • Giving up freedom and decision making to others they believe will keep them safe.

She added, “More and more Americans are not putting in the time to understand an issue or are not equipped to discern what is truth and fact. History shows the corrupt and powerful thrive under those conditions. Some of the worst atrocities in history occurred when everyday citizens acted like ostriches.” has your back.
